There is little permanent surface water anywhere to be found because of a combination of low rainfall and high evaporation. In this part of the world, rivers only run intermittently following heavy rain. When travelling or walking it is important to carry ample water in this often harsh environment. The cooler dry season days are more suited to bush walking. Permanent waters are scarce.
